Advent Update on Family Ministries

by jen taylor, interim director of family ministries

First and foremost, I want to be sure you all know how incredibly grateful I am to have been offered the opportunity to work with all of our wonderful children and families at Saint James’. Over the last few weeks, I have been familiarizing myself with the Sunday School curriculum, learning where to find things and trying to get into the swing of things.

I could not do this alone. I am very thankful for all of the Sunday School teachers that have been so giving with their time and so helpful as I learn the ropes! Laura Updyke has also been such a wonderful mentor and I am truly thankful for all of her help, planning and insight. It’s going to be a great year.

As we enter into the season of Advent, the Sunday School kids will be making advent wreaths, putting on a Christmas pageant and  learning about the things we see at Christmas (and why some of the symbols we see in our modern life, actually have ties back to the Bible).

Youth from Saint James’ Warrenton helped with a build in early November, when they replaced a roof in Fauquier County.

Both our High School and Middle School youth groups have gotten off to a great start and have many more exciting activities planned for the winter months. They both had fun kick off meetings, lots of volunteer activities at Saint James’ Builds and most recently at the Gobble Gobble Run or Wobble 5K race raising money for Learning Starts Early. Thanks to the great team of leaders and a super bunch of kids, we have two fantastic groups.
