Hopefully one last parish meeting before we break ground on the expansion building project!
As we file all of the necessary paperwork for us to break ground in early September we need a more specific resolution regarding our financing and collateralizing of our endowment and rectory as conditions of our loan.
Come to church on Sunday July 23rd and cast your vote! We will open the meeting right after the 8am service and will keep the meeting open until after the 10:15 service and ballots can be cast at any time during that window. Please make sure to make it to church that Sunday as this is an important requirement.
As a church and a school, we strive to be an icon of Christ’s expansive love and care for the world. That love does not set conditions or limits to its reach.
Unfortunately our space does.
In terms of accessibility, available space, and a facility equipped for 21st century ministry, our beautiful grounds fall woefully short.
It has been 50 years since our last major expansion or renovation and it shows.

To the Saint James’ Church family,
In Fr Ben’s letter that we all received last week, he concluded by praying that we had “experienced the joy of adventuring with our Captain, Jesus Christ.” As I have thought about his prayer for us, it occurred to me that “adventuring together” has been the leading edge of Fr Ben’s ministry with us for the last three and a half years. Here are excerpts from Fr Ben’s first letter to us in February, 2013:
“One of my passions in ministry is forming loving Christ-centered communities committed to the care of one another and respectful sharing and appreciation of differences.”
“I love inviting people into living a fuller more gratifying life, more consistent with the life they were created to live.”
“Finally, I am convinced that the mark of a healthy, faithful parish is service to others. The work of the church is squarely to meet the unmet needs of a community.”

The new architecture firm, Kerns Group Architects, is swiftly refining our drawings and integrating their new ideas into the project. We have been very impressed with their careful listening and quick turn around. I think a few of the most impressive changes include the addition of a distinct school entrance and a richer incorporation of our existing architectural details, most notably highlighting the ascension window and pitch of the church, and a more cost effective and accessible location for the elevator to serve both church and school. We continue to grow more excited with each revision and cannot wait to share the final schematics with all of you later this fall.

Donations are being accepted for the relief effort in the Philippines. You can donate on line through Episcopal Relief & Development or you can write a check to Saint James’ and earmark it “Philippines Relief”. A portion of Saint James’ Outreach Funds that are designated for relief efforts will also be sent to help out.
Your gift to the Philippines fund will support emergency relief and recovery efforts in the Philippines following Super storm Typhoon Haiyan. On the morning of November 8, 2013, Super Typhoon Haiyan made landfall in the central Philippines, causing widespread damage and destruction. Donations to this fund will assist our local partner, the Episcopal Church in the Philippines, in distributing critical food supplies and preparing a strategy for long-term recovery. You can learn more about ERD’s efforts in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan from this feed from the Episcopal News Service.
In order to make sure our church books are kept as accurate as possible, please remember to place a note on your check or inside your offering envelope to clarify where your offering is to be applied. If there is no note, your offering will generally be applied to your open pledge or to open plate. If you wish your offering to be applied to the capital campaign or to a specific ministry, please help us keep our records up to date with a quick note. Offering statements were recently mailed out and another round of statements will be in the mail in a few weeks to wrap up the 3rd quarter. Please look these over carefully, compare with your records, and let Bookkeeper Laura Cline know if there are any corrections. Laura can be reached at the church office at 540-347-4342. Thank you again for all who have already given so generously to our missions!
