What to do when Stress becomes unmanageable:

Since February the Parish Health team’s focus is on addressing the importance of effective stress management.

Everyone experiences stress. Normally, we are very good at identifying and facing a challenge, solving a situation, or reaching out to someone for support. What happens when stress becomes chronic or unmanageable?

Chronic stress is a prolonged and constant feeling of stress that can negatively impact a person’s daily life. Among the many physical and psychological symptom’s caused by chronic stress include fatigue, headaches, difficulty concentrating, rapid and disorganized thoughts, changes in appetite, frequent infections or illness, depression, and anxiety.

What to do? If you have attempted to integrate the strategies to deal with stress (as previously noted in the Parish Health series on Stress) without improvement, you are not alone. Your next step is to contact your Personal Care Physician (PCP). Your physician can provide support and advice regarding treatment options and referrals.

IF you are feeling overwhelmed or having suicidal thoughts, contact your physician immediately or call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline @ 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
