At Saint James’, inclusivity is central to our understanding of community. We strive to create a safe space to share both joys and sorrows. We believe that relationships and shared experiences are a key part of faithful living.
Through Parish Community Ministries like church picnics and softball in the summer, making gingerbread houses in the winter, celebrating Mardi Gras before Lent, and Café and coffee hour on Sundays, we have many opportunities for building communities.
Our baptismal covenant challenges us to “seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving [our] neighbors as [ourselves].” Each servant ministry at Saint James’ seeks to follow Jesus’ unselfish and unyielding example of love.
Our reach extends both to our neighbors in Fauquier County and around the globe. Our local Servant Ministries include assisting at Fauquier Food Bank, Fauquier Free Clinic, Food for Friends, Learning Starts Early, Saint James’ Builds and Firewood Ministry.
In worship, the parish comes together to hear God’s Word, sing God’s song, pray for the need’s of God’s world and to be both nurtured and challenged by the gift of God’s communion.
Worship Ministries at Saint James’ include acolytes (crucifers, torch bearers, banner bearers, servers), altar guild, flower guild, liturgical ministers (chalicers, intercessors, readers), music ministers (bell ringers, the choir, instrumentalists, music librarians) and ushers.
Children and youth are a vital part of our church and are always welcome during worship. Nursery is available every Sunday during the 10:15am worship service. Pre-K through fifth grade children are invited to Sunday school, also during the 10:15am service. Children rejoin their parents from Sunday school midway through worship and are welcome to participate fully in the Eucharist. On Sunday evenings, middle-school youth focus on learning the foundations of our faith, and the high-school curriculum emphasizes service in our community and beyond.
Saint James’ Episcopal School
Our largest ministry is Saint James’ Episcopal School, which offers intentionally small classes in preschool (age 2) through fifth grade. Students experience the Episcopal traditions of service, compassion and respect in a nurturing environment. Discover more at the SJES website.
Adult formation at Saint James’ focus on learning about the faith, listening to God, make disciples and strengthening our spiritual journeys. We believe that our learning comes from Scripture, tradition, reason and experience. Learning is lifelong and involves questions, meaningful conversations and deep listening. Adult Formation Ministries include Bishop’s Eucharist & Discussion on Thursday morning, Education for Ministry, Green Team, Men’s spiritual formation, Sunday- and Tuesday learning groups and Thursday Book Study.
