We’ve all heard about the importance of pollinators, but let’s recognize National Pollinator Week by actually doing something special. Set aside time to read about these fascinating creatures. (Try Bicycling with Butterflies by Sara Dykman.) Take a few moments to sit and watch bees at work on clover and dandelions, butterflies on flowers. If it is in your yard, give them a break and don’t mow their nutrition. For a special treat, walk to the St. James’ School yard after a worship service and visit the new pollinator garden there—there are lovely places to sit and enjoy the busy pollinators in action. Beauty includes clover and dandelions; neonics (banned in the E. U.) and harsh chemicals in lawns are fatal to pollinators. And include native plants in your landscaping because these are what our native pollinators search for.
