Did you know that the St. James' School's pollinator garden fed numerous Monarch caterpillars this summer?
Monarch butterflies are now finishing their fall migration to the south. To the West, they are already being spotted in Monterrey, Mexico, and in clusters on the California coast. The Eastern population finishes their long, end of summer journey in the oyamel fir forests in Michoacan. Their arrival coincides with Dia de Muertos, a parallel to our All Saints’ Day, which is a celebration of ancestors who have gone before us. This year, more than 2,600 volunteers from across 75 states, provinces, and territories participated in this year’s International Monarch Monitoring, a new record, which brought nearly 6,000 observations. http://www.cec.org/newsletter/monarch-butterfly-conservation-supported-by-record-breaking-north-american-community-science-monitoring-blitz/
